A review of advances in pancreatic tissue engineering
Authors
Abstract:
Background: A common treatment for patients with type 1 diabetes in which pancreatic beta cells are destroyed by their own immune system attack, is insulin injection. Because this treatment is not able to maintain complete glucose homeostasis compared to the function of endogenous insulin secreted by the pancreas; in the field of pancreatic tissue engineering, various treatment strategies have been proposed, which this article introduces and reviews. Methods: The present article is a review study that was performed using the search of keywords including Tissue engineering, Pancreas, Type 1 Diabetes, Extracellular Matrix, and Three-dimensional Bioprinting in available databases of PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Scopus to search for relevant articles and books related to the subject. Results: A total of 48 articles and two books obtained from the search, which were in line with the objectives of the present study, were selected and the analysis of their results was presented in fluent and practical language. Conclusion: Although pancreatic islet transplantation has been introduced as an ideal treatment for type 1 diabetes, its effectiveness is limited due to the lack of islets needed for transplantation, immune rejection, and the use of long-term immunosuppressive drugs. As a result, new approaches to pancreatic tissue engineering, including scaffolding techniques, Three-dimensional bioprinting, and insulin-secreting organoids, have been proposed to address these challenges.

Nanoscience and Nano Engineering in Concrete Advances , A Review
This paper reviews some progressive studies and innovations in cement and concrete materials in nano field. Due to the widespread acceptance of the special properties of nano materials and using them for engineering concrete performance, understanding and directing their properties are not achievable without instructing concepts and investigating interactions among components. Due to ach...
full textBone Tissue Engineering: a Mini-Review
Despite advances in bone tissue engineering, auto grafts from intra-oral or extra-oral donor sites are still the gold standard for treatment of large craniomaxillofacial defects. Biomaterial development, application of growth factor, and stem cells, open new gateway to bone regeneration studies, but real translation from bench to bedside have not yet happened. In this review article, a number o...
full textRecent Advances in Crystal Engineering from Nanoscience Views: A Brief Review
Crystal engineering has recently emerged as a method of choice for the design and construction of organic as well as metal-organic functional materials. Crystal engineering attempts to establish packing trends in whole families of compounds and seeks to establish connections between structure and function. The utility of crystal engineering has also been expanded to the nanoscience and the deve...
full textA Review on Commonly Used Scaffolds in Tissue Engineering for Bone Tissue Regeneration
Introduction: Bone is one of the tissues that have a true potential for regeneration. However, sometimes the bone defects are so outsized that there is no chance of bone self-repair and restoration or the damage is such that it is not possible to repair with medical or surgical interventions. In these situations, bone grafts are the treatment of choice, but due to several obstacles, including l...
